Ripple Lunch Club

The daily Lunch Club provides a hot meal and valuable companionship to up to thirty vulnerable local older people in a community which has one of the highest concentrations of elderly in the Lothians. For many, attendance at the Club provides a focus for their day and an opportunity to get out the house to have a hot meal while enjoying the company of others. Users are provided with door-to-door transport to and from the club to ensure that those who are frail or lack mobility are included. The Club runs Monday to Friday 11.15am to 1.00pm and a team of volunteers serve the meals cooked fresh from the Hub Grub Café.  A two course hot meal with tea/coffee and biscuits costs £4.50 per day and a small fee of 50p is charged for the bus.  We do ask that meals are pre-booked at least 1 day in advance and can be paid for on the day.  You can choose to attend on any, or any number of, days and regular users book and pay on a Friday for the following week. Bus places are currently available however are limited to people living in Restalrig, Lochend and Craigentinny.

Ripple Friday Social Club

The Ripple Project Friday Club for the over 60s gives older local people the chance to take part in a fun afternoon of musical entertainment, guest speakers and information sharing.  These sessions run monthly from 1pm to 3pm and dates of upcoming events can be found in the current issue of The Speaker.  After our entertainment we all join together in the café for tea, biscuits etc. lots of chat and getting to know new friends and neighbours.  All for the small charge of £1!  No booking required, just come in and join us.

The Ripple Friday Club also runs a Super Seniors Club aimed at adventurous over 75s.  Run by a core membership of volunteers with support from the staff team there is a warm welcome and a helping hand for those who may need it. The Super Seniors Friday Club is an ideal opportunity to get out of the house, meet other members, make new friends and take a trip out to local places of interest. A weekly programme of social activities, trips and good old fashioned entertainment is planned by members and volunteers.

So far this year the our members have enjoyed listening to Danny Feelgood, with our favourite songs from the past, taken part in seated exercise with a local OT, strolled through the summer blooms at Starbank Park, shared memories at the Living Memories Association and dressed up to disco!

Running on a Friday between 1pm and 3pm with door-to-door transport limited to people living in Restalrig, Lochend and Craigentinny. THIS SERVICE IS CURRENTLY FULL and we do not foresee spaces becoming available before early 2019. 

The Knitting Network

Already an avid knitter or someone keen to take up wool and knitting needles? All ages and abilities are welcome with everything you need to get started is provided by the network. Just drop in on a Tuesday between 2pm and 3.30 pm and start knitting. A small donation of 50p per session towards tea and biscuits.

Write On

Courses run 3 times per year usually March, June and September, on a Thursday between 12.45pm and 2.45 pm, with guest tutors who are experience in running groups of all abilities and offer stimulating topics for you to get creative with your writing in a variety of genres. These courses run for 8 weeks and are FREE

Warm and welcoming, open to everyone, new writers and old, members are given the opportunity to try their hand at prose and poetry covering a wide range of themes both humorous and tragic including fantastical tales and heart-warming stories.

They say there’s a story in all of us and the benefit of putting our thoughts and feelings into words is well documented. Don’t be shy and give the Ripple a ring if you’re interested.  Details of course dates are given in the Speaker and this group is FREE.

Ripple Parent/Carer Toddler Group

Looking to meet other mums and carer’s while your little one gets a chance to play with other children?

The Ripple Parent/Carer Toddler group provides lots of resources for little people and a relaxed friendly atmosphere for grown-up conversations. This group offers an opportunity to make new friends within a friendly welcoming group for toddlers 0 to pre-school, led by a Ripple volunteer on hand to help the session run smoothly.

Running weekly during school term times, 9.30am to 11.30am at the McLaren Halls, 48 Restalrig Road South, a small donation of £1 per session towards the cost of refreshments, including tea/coffee for the adults.
